Test Drive 2021 Nissan Pathfinder in Lumberton NC
While it is not common for an automaker to skip a model year, that is exactly what happened with the 2021 Nissan Pathfinder. Some automakers opted to simply carry over the previous model and rebadge it. Nissan, on the other hand, was more upfront about what had unfolded. The good news is that the fifth generation is finally arriving and will soon be available at Nissan of Lumberton. It brings with it a sleeker exterior, a more upscale interior, a new nine-speed automatic transmission and Safety Shield, a suite of standard driver assistance technologies.

The 2021 Nissan Pathfinder in Lumberton remains similar to the previous model in terms of overall size. The wheelbase is the same at 114.2 inches. The overall length, however, is reduced by 1.5 inches to 197.0 inches long, but the minimum ground clearance remains the same at 7.0 inches. The new Pathfinder rides on 18-inch alloy wheels, and 20-inch alloy wheels are available. All of the exterior lighting on the base model is LED. Roof rails are standard. Both a power and hands-free liftgate are available, and Nissan is offering at least 14 exterior colors, including five two-tone options.
One of the big changes for the 2021 Nissan Pathfinder in Lumberton is that the third row now comes with three seats standard. That means that eight-passenger seating is standard in a 2-3-3 configuration. It also means if you prefer the fancier bucket seats in the second row that you only reduce seating to seven in a 2-2-3 arrangement rather than six. As of this writing, it was not known if six-passenger seating would be an option. It was also not known what the exact legroom specifications are. We do know that it will at least match the previous model: 42.2, 41.7 and 30.7 in the first, second and third row, respectively. Cargo area has been confirmed and exceeds the previous model. The dedicated area is 16.6 cubic feet, and 45.0 and 80.5 cubic feet are available by folding the rear seating.
Nissan Pathfinder Mechanical specs
The new Pathfinder retains the 3.5-liter V6 from the previous generation, but avoid letting that dictate whether you schedule a Nissan of Lumberton test drive because much has changed beyond that. This engine is rated for 284 hp and 259 lb.-ft. of torque. Nissan has eliminated the CVT and now pairs it with a nine-speed automatic transmission, which greatly changes the performance dynamics. It also leads to better fuel performance and off-road capabilities. In addition, if you opt for the available trailering equipment, the Pathfinder can tow up to a best-in-class 6,000 pounds.
Safety – 2021 Nissan Pathfinder dealer
As mentioned in the opener, the big change for the 2022 model is that Safety Shield is standard equipment. This is a collection of driver-assistance technologies that are included even if you opt for the base model. This suite includes automatic headlamps, automatic high-beam headlamp control, forward collision detection, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring and much more. The 8-inch touchscreen has also been repositioned for a better sightline while driving, and the upper trims provide access to an even larger 9-inch touchscreen.
