2023 Nissan Altima Overview
The Nissan Altima continues to be one of the most popular midsize sedans in North America, and Nissan generated a great deal of excitement when it announced that the 2023 Nissan Altima would arrive with some rather significant updates. In fact, Nissan introduced the new model with the tagline “bringing sport back to sedan,” which referred to the sportier exterior makeover but also the new SR VC-Turbo model. Nissan of Lumberton is the premier Nissan dealer serving Lumberton Fort Bragg Fayetteville Florence and the surrounding areas, and we’ve received many questions from customers since the announcement. This early 2023 Nissan Altima review is an opportunity to explore the information that we currently have available, but be mindful that the details provided here are subject to change.

Form factor remains the same for the new model. This is a midsize sedan with four doors. The ground clearance is a bit more than 5 inches, and the length is just a tad more than 16 feet. Despite that sameness, the new Altima looks a lot different. It features a redesigned front end that makes the vehicle look more upscale and aggressive. The headlamps have been redesigned as well to complement the new look, and Nissan has introduced new colors and wheel designs. The S has 16-inch steel wheels with wheel covers. The SV and SL have 17-inch alloy wheels, and the SR has the all-new 19-inch alloy wheels.
Interior – 2023 Nissan Altima in Lumberton NC
Nissan has opted to retire the Platinum trim level for the 2022 model. That means that for 2023, you’ll have four core options to choose from—S, SV, SR and SL—and we’ll break down all of the available models more in the Mechanical section. The Altima is a five-passenger vehicle. Headroom ranges from 38.0 inches in the front seats to 35.2 inches in the rear seats. First-row legroom is 43.8 inches. Second-row legroom is 35.2 inches, and the trunk is 15.4 cubic feet. The S model is designed to be as affordable as possible but still rather well equipped: cloth upholstery, air conditioning, a six-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, a 7-inch infotainment touch screen, a USB charging port and a six-speaker sound system. The SV adds a front USB-C port, two rear USB ports and a satellite radio. The SR adds upgraded cabin materials and styling cues along with a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob. A Premium package is available for the SV and SR and adds the leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob if applicable, heated front seating, driver lumbar support and a sunroof. The SL includes that package and adds leather seating, zoned auto climate control, a heated steering wheel and much more.
Nissan Altima Mechanical specs
The S, SV, SR and SL models are front-wheel-drive sedans. If you prefer all-wheel drive, you have the option of the SV AWD, SR AWD and SL AWD. There is also a new SR VC-Turbo model that is only available with front-wheel drive. The front-wheel-drive system has been designed to provide traditional sedan handling and feel. The intelligent all-wheel-drive system has been designed to provide a driving experience more comparable with a crossover SUV. Keyless entry, push-button ignition and remote engine start are standard features across the board. The SR and SR VC-Turbo have a sports suspension.
Powertrain – Nissan Dealership in Lumberton NC
Regardless of powertrain, every Altima features a continuously variable automatic transmission. In the standard setup, Nissan mates that CVT to a 188-horsepower four-cylinder engine. If you prefer a sportier sedan experience, then you have the option of the SR VC-Turbo, which has the CVT mated to a 248-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder. Starting with the SV trim level, Nissan upgrades the vehicle with Intelligent Ride Control, which smooths out the suspension on bumpy roads, and Intelligent Trace Control, which improves handling through curves.
Safety – 2023 Nissan Altima dealer
The IIHS has selected the current-gen Altima as a Top Safety Pick+, and there have been no fundamental updates to the 2023 model that would change that. The base model has a 7-inch touch screen. The SV adds an 8-inch touch screen with Apple and Android smartphone integration. All trim levels beyond that point include the new 12.3-inch touch screen. All models come with the Safety Shield 360 package, and that has been expanded this year to include the Driver Assist package that was optional with the base model previously. ProPilot Assist is optional starting with the SV and standard with the SR.
